Bente Skjøttgaard
Bente Skjøttgaard (bb..11961) makes highly textured ceramic sculptures with an aura of equal parts toughness and her sense for an underlying poetic delicacy. She is constantly testing the performing abilities of the raw materials, the works relying on both her fresh sketchy approach to modelling in the wet clay and the unpredictability of her frings with glazes at high temperatures.. Out of her immediate control, the materials are left in the kiln to perform on the basis of her previous experiences and her infinite curiosity for new unexpected results.. Bente Skjøttgaard keeps adding new highly personal chapters to the infnite story that cul ture and nature share, whilst continuing her exploration of ceramic possibilities.

“Claytime!” was a show dedicated to revealing some of the most relevant contemporary ceramic artists who rethink the traditional handcraft, producing exciting and new applications. The gallery selected a group of international ceramists, including Aneta Regel, Bente Skjøttgaard, Claudi Casanovas amongst others.

Turn me on…NOW was an exhibition presented by Side Gallery in Barcelona. The spring/summer show was dedicated to unveiling the diversity of contemporary lighting. Being the only design gallery in the city the exciting show brought together a selection of young artists and designers born after the year 1980 displaying a wide variety of material techniques and conceptual ideas. The group show boasted works by Sabine Marcelis, Guillermo Santomà, James Shaw and Martin Rusak among others.

Exhibiting for the at SALON Art + Design in New York, December 2019, Side Gallery presented a collection of works from Brazilian designers Geraldo de Barros, Joaquim Tenreiro, Jorge Zalszupin and Sergio Rodrigues, the modern Brazilian design was carefully combined with a selection of contemporary works, including a lacquered blue buffet by Belgium design duo Muller Van Severen, produced exclusively for Side Gallery.

On the occasion of PAD London 2019 Side Gallery presented an extensive collection of pieces by the Brazilian master Joaquim Tenreiro. Taken from an important private house in Rio de Janeiro, the gallery mixed iconic works such as the “Leve" chair (1942) and “Concha” chair (1950) with some unique pieces specially commissioned for the family. The organic 20th century design was set in dialogue with contemporary compositions by Julie Richoz and Sabine Marcelis.
