LUKAS SAINT-JOIGNY (1993 - )
Lukas Saint-Joigny is an experimental designer based in Paris. He graduated with a MA in Contextual Design at the Design Academy Eindhoven in 2018. He has an experimental way of making objects based on an exploration of shapes and materials.
His hands-on process enables him to deal with color and texture to create intriguing objects that communicate with the user and push him to reflect on the world surrounding us. Greatly inspired by science fiction, comics, and sciences such as geology and biology, he doesn't follow the archetypes of objects but tries to stimulate the imagination. He intends to focus on the research of a new aesthetic based on the unexpected and the strange.
Since graduating, he has produced his Ore Collection, a series of domestic objects that evoke ore minerals. Through experimental organic shapes and vibrant colors, his objects look alive. The collection reflects his cosmic influences, creating a dynamic aspect portrayed through the forms and their texture, taking the viewer into a fantasy, forcing the imagination. Side Gallery first showed the collection at the Collectible Design fair and then in the gallery's summer exhibition space Casavells.

CASAVELLS is a unique almost hidden space in the Catalonian region of L’Empordà, set in an antique masía (farmhouse) from XVIII century that brings together a harmonic coexistence be- tween art, craft and design. Committed to innovation and tradition, the gallery collects, preserves, and promotes modern and contemporary art and design, whilst exploring ideas across cultures through dynamic curatorial initiatives and collaborations. Casavells 2020 combined a younger generation of designers born after 1980, exploring new techniques, materials and sensations of the design world. Alongside the display of cutting edge colorful organic forms, the 2020 edit dedicated a room to a collective exhibition of craft including works by contemporary basket makers from around the world, promoting and preserving ancient techniques, as well as experimenting with new and innovative weaves.

Side Gallery is delighted to announce the opening it’s annual exhibition at Casavells. Situated in the Idyllic countryside of Empordà – Costa Brava, the magnificent Spanish masia will host the presentation of a curated selection of design and contemporary ceramics.

The 2020 edition of COLLECTIBE Design Fair in Brussels was held at the iconic Vanderborght building. The fair is dedicated exclusively to 21st century contemporary design, giving Side Gallery the opportunity to show the works of designers whose concepts were at the forefront of creativity. Side Gallery featured a selected group of young international designers whose works promoted and explored the new ways of the design world, focusing on the investigation of materials, forms and techniques. Side Gallery presented works from Rodrigo Pinto, Lukas Saint-Joigny, Sophie Rowley, Sigve Knutson and the iconic Sabine Marcelis.
