About
Lamp for Autumn, conceived by Thomas Takada between 2023 and 2024 in the Buttes-Chaumont area of Paris, is a poetic exploration of seasonality, material ephemerality, and found composition.
The work is constructed from gathered natural elements—maple seeds, branches, leaves, and stones—combined with everyday materials such as a plastic bag and integrated electrical components. This juxtaposition creates a dialogue between the organic and the artificial, highlighting the tension between nature and contemporary urban life.
Rather than concealing its construction, the piece embraces fragility and impermanence. The assemblage evokes the transient character of autumn, where accumulation, decay, and transformation coexist. Light becomes both a functional and symbolic element, illuminating the textures and irregularities of the materials while reinforcing the work’s atmospheric presence.
Positioned between design, sculpture, and installation, Lamp for Autumn reflects Takada’s interest in process, place, and the poetic potential of overlooked materials.
