Biography
Mirian Inês da Silva (b. 1951, Brazil) is a Brazilian artist celebrated for her vivid depictions of everyday life, social gatherings, and festive traditions deeply rooted in Brazil’s cultural identity. Her work is characterized by the visual language of naïve art: spontaneous composition, flattened perspective, and vibrant colors that capture the rhythm and warmth of popular Brazilian scenes.
The 1987 painting Forró na casa de Noca é hoje só illustrates one of her central themes: the joyful social dances of the Brazilian northeast. Through simplified forms and a folkloric narrative, Mirian Inês da Silva immortalizes the cultural significance of the forró, a musical and dance tradition that embodies community, music, and celebration.
Her paintings, though not widely exhibited in institutional circuits, are regularly collected and admired in the sphere of Brazilian folk art and are valued for their authenticity and cultural storytelling.
