Gino Sarfatti (1912–1984) was a celebrated figure in the Italian design world from the 1930s onwards. Co-founder of the renowned interior design firm Arteluce with Maurizio Tempestini, Sarfatti was both a designer and an entrepreneur, who was a master of the production process, from conception to the final sale. With a fondness for spherical forms and long, arching stems, he designed desk lamps, spotlights, chandeliers and freestanding lamps; cubes that diffuse light in three directions; lightshades reminiscent of a woman’s hat; he was also the first to use halogen lightbulbs. Surveying these and other works, Gino Sarfatti: Designing Light includes personal encounters with the master from his contemporaries, from Silvana Annicchiarico, Arturo Dell’Acqua Bellavitis, Claudio De Albertis, Manolo De Giorgi, Piero Gandini and Roberto Sarfatti.
