Biography
Willy Guhl (1915–2004) was a pioneering Swiss designer known for his minimalist and innovative approach to industrial design. Born in Stein am Rhein, Switzerland, Guhl became one of the most influential figures in post-war furniture design. He is best remembered for his iconic Loop Chair, made from a single piece of Eternit fiber cement, which exemplified his commitment to using modern materials in creative ways. A teacher at the Zurich School of Applied Arts for many years, Guhl emphasized simplicity, functionality, and sustainability in his work. His designs remain timeless, combining practicality with aesthetic purity.
