About
This sculptural table lamp, dating from the 1960s, combines a spherical white plastic diffuser with a distinctive arrangement of curved wooden panels. Positioned radially around the central globe, the wooden elements follow its contours while extending slightly beyond its surface, creating an open, architectural structure that balances solid volumes and negative space.
The warm tones and visible grain of the wood contrast with the smooth, translucent appearance of the plastic diffuser, establishing a dialogue between natural and synthetic materials. The curved panels introduce a rhythmic composition, giving the lamp a dynamic silhouette that changes according to the viewing angle. Their arrangement also creates a sense of depth, partially enclosing the illuminated sphere without concealing its rounded form.
The design reflects the experimentation with materials, geometry and organic forms characteristic of European lighting during the 1960s. Its combination of traditional woodworking techniques and modern synthetic materials illustrates the period's interest in developing new approaches to domestic lighting, in which functional objects increasingly acquired a sculptural and decorative presence.
Equipped with an electrical cord and plug, the lamp can be positioned on a table or other horizontal surface. Its compact, self-contained form allows it to function both as a source of ambient illumination and as an independent decorative object, bringing together material warmth, geometric clarity and expressive construction.
