Biography
Tobia Scarpa (b. 1935) is an acclaimed Italian architect and designer known for his innovative contributions to furniture, lighting, and industrial design. A graduate of the Istituto Universitario di Architettura in Venice, Scarpa often collaborated with his wife, Afra Scarpa, and worked for iconic brands such as Cassina, B&B Italia, and Flos.
His lighting designs, such as the Katia lamp, are celebrated for their modern elegance and functional simplicity. He was one of the early adopters of experimental materials and forms, integrating traditional craftsmanship with industrial techniques. Scarpa’s designs are part of permanent collections in museums like the MoMA in New York, and his work continues to influence contemporary designers worldwide.
