POÈME BRUT (2020)

POÈME BRUT

DESIGN MUSEUM GHENT
GHENT
MAR 13 2020 - FEB 21 2021

Poème Brut was an exhibition that explored designers’ renewed interest in crafts, local techniques and materials. In recent years, focus has shifted to manufacturing processes and materiality as a counterpoint to dematerialization and globalization. Underpinning the exhibition was the outcome of the research into materials and techniques. Some designs use old, forgotten materials and new techniques or technology to process them, while others are the result of an old craft but created with a new material. All the design objects were tactile and poetic, mostly rough around the edges looking unfinished. Poème Brut focused on the designer as a maker, as an alchemist who was inspired by the special properties of matter and innovative ways of processing it, as well as its potential in a contemporary context.
