Being Popular presented a collection of works from a group of Europe’s most sought after designers. As a gallery, Side Gallery focuses on Latin American 20th century design, however the gallery also represents a number of European designers who’s unique works present an important contribution to modern design. From the Nordic countries we saw the works of Axel Einar Hjorth, his sofa model “Uto” manufactured by AB Nordiska Kompaniet, was placed beside a mid-century floor lamp by Paavo Tynell manufactured by Taito.

Another corner of the gallery was occupied with a classic combination of work from Gio Ponti, Adrian & Frida Audoux-Minet and Charlotte Perriand. The French designer’s armchair “model 21” was shown alongside a Pine wood shelving unit, with a Ponti ceramic from the 1930s. Other important works show were Gio Ponti’s arm chair model “BP 16” manufactured by Bonacina, as well as a pair of Franco Albini’s rattan armchairs model “Gala”, also by Bonacina.
