Biography
Carlo Nason was born in 1936 in Murano, Italy, the heart of Venetian glassmaking, into a family with a glassmaking legacy that dates back to the 16th century. Immersed in this rich artisanal tradition from an early age, Nason developed a profound respect for the craftsmanship and artistry involved in glass production. In the 1960s and 1970s, Nason emerged as one of Italy’s most innovative lighting designers, particularly through his collaborations with A.V. Mazzega, a renowned Murano glass company. His designs seamlessly blended modernist aesthetics with the mastery of traditional glassmaking techniques. Many of his iconic creations are celebrated for their sculptural forms, clean geometric lines, and the way they highlight the unique qualities of Murano glass.
Unlike many of his contemporaries, Nason approached lighting design with a sculptural sensibility, producing works that were not only functional but also artistic.
