"Jean Gillon: Artista - Designer", is a monographic publication dedicated to the life and work of Jean Gillon, a key figure in modern Brazilian design. Born in Romania and later naturalized as a Brazilian citizen, Gillon led a dynamic life shaped by displacement, creativity, and multidisciplinary practice.
After fleeing Europe during the rise of Nazism, Gillon lived in Israel, where he developed a prolific career in the arts, scenography, and interior design before settling in Brazil in the mid-1950s. There, he became an important contributor to the development of modern furniture design, while also working across a wide range of disciplines including tapestry, sculpture, interior architecture, and painting.
Organized by gallerist Graça Bueno—who has spent over a decade researching and assembling Gillon’s archive—the book features texts by Enock Sacramento, Giancarlo Latorraca, and Bueno herself. Accompanied by a photographic essay by Ruy Teixeira, the volume reconstructs Gillon’s trajectory and highlights his contribution to the history of design in Brazil.
