Kenzo Tange: Architecture and Urban Design, 1946–1979 is a comprehensive survey of the architectural and urban planning work of Kenzo Tange. Published in Zurich by Verlag für Architektur Artemis, the volume documents more than three decades of projects by one of Japan’s most celebrated modern architects.

Compiled from several publications originally issued in Japanese—including Reality and Creation, Technology and Humanity, and Architecture and the City—the book brings together Tange’s reflections on architecture, technology, and urbanism. The publication presents major works such as the Hiroshima Peace Center, St. Mary’s Cathedral in Tokyo, and the Yoyogi National Gymnasium, alongside numerous lesser-known projects.

Extensively illustrated with hundreds of black-and-white photographs, drawings, and architectural plans, the volume also explores Tange’s ambitious urban planning proposals. Among them are his master plans for Tokyo, the Osaka World Expo, and the reconstruction of Skopje. Accompanied by Tange’s annotations translated into English, French, and German, the book stands as a major documentation of his architectural philosophy and vision for modern cities.
