TADEAS PODRACKY
Tadeas Podracky (b. 1989, Czech Republic) is an experimental designer who seeks authenticity in our immediate surroundings. Through material research, questioning craft heritage, and a hands-on approach, Podracky proposes a new methodology. He uses a reformulated approach to design, based on exploring expression, destruction, and accepting individuality.
Whether it is an object or space, he is always looking for a way to break down the established principles of "good" design to bring new possibilities and emphasize the multi-layered identities of the contemporary individual.
Tadeas Podracky went through the design and fine art academic training. He received an MA at the Academy of Art Architecture and Design in Prague; completed study internships in the Fine Art studio at the School of Visual Arts (New York) and in the Monumental Sculpture studio at the Academy of Fine Arts (Prague). After independent practice, he completed an MA in Contextual Design from the Design Academy Eindhoven.
His work won the AD design award and CGD award and has been internationally exhibited, notably Design Miami Basel, FOG San Francisco, Maison et Objet Paris, Mudac museum Lausanne, Designblok Prague, Salone del Mobile Milano, London Design Festival, Dutch Design Week. Podracky was invited as a guest designer to several design residencies, Design Biennial (Venice), Fellowship in Creative Glass Center of America at WheatonArts (USA), and Yuhang Rong Design Library (China).

The Rietvelt chair by Tadeas Podracky was chosen to be exhibited at Museum of Applied Arts and Design in Lithuania for the exhibition “The Invisibles”. In order to recognise and highlight the historical and cultural value of the objects and furniture store in Lithuania's major museums and galleries, the Museum of Applied Arts and Design has created an exhibition called "The Invisibles". Alongside these historical objects, pieces by contemporary designers are presented to reveal the differences in functionality and style, while showing how there can also be similarities over time.

Seeking to encourage a dialogue between international contemporary design and the historic setting of Venice, the biennial will be centered around a curatorial theme that investigates what design represents for each of us as individuals.

Tadeas Podracky presents at the prague design festival his lighting sculptures collection. As he explains, the objects arise straight away through the direct process with sketchy materials in order to capture the gesture of his hands. Then translated into steel, glass, and light; the materials commonly associated with futuristic development. The goal was to evoke the atmosphere of a mythical megacity from a speculative future.

Side Gallery was delighted to be showcasing at the 17th edition of Design Miami, "The Metamorphosis" collection, an exceptional body of works redefining contemporary craft by Tadeáš Podracky, produced for his graduation show at the Design Academy Eindhoven in 2020. On this occasion, Side Gallery has shown both original works from this experimental series, alongside a new collection commissioned exclusively for the fair. As a continuation of the Metamorphosis series, Podracky has meticulously hand-carved a series of modular wall shelves, a stool, a Lounge chair and an armchair. Through a highly labor-intensive process, material research and a contemporary approach to craftsmanship, Podracky’s skillful and hands-on method reformulates traditional design applications.
